| | Windows Media Player 11 for Vista Something happened to my computer that caused WMP to stop working. I receive a message thatWMP is corupted and asks me if I want to download and reinstall it. I am redirected to a download site I download the installation web site where i Download and try to install or repair WMP. But I Receive the following error message: "There is a more recent ersion of Windows Media Player (11.0.6000.6344) already installed on your computer. It is not possible to use an older installation package (11.0.5721.5146) to install files or to repair your current version of the player." Please tell me the link I need to get the correct version of WMP. I would appreciate it very much. Every site I try gives me the above mentioned message. Thank you in advance for your time in resolving this problem for me. |

| | Re: Windows Media Player 11 for Vista You cannot install the XP player on Vista. You cannot reinstall the player on Vista- that's not how the Vista component system works. You can reinstall Vista, which will reinstall the player. Could you clarify *how* the player has stopped working? That might be an easier way to address this. -- Speaking for myself only. | | Re: Windows Media Player 11 for Vista Anyone having problems playing various downloaded content on a Vista OS should really try the VLC media player for a simple interface & easy way to convert between 16:10.16:9 & endless other screen res formats, 4:3 etc, windows media player is a nightmare whatever the version, sure works ok with explorers preview mode but not consistent with the variety of today's media downloads! | | Re: Windows Media Player 11 for Vista What specific "variety of today's media" are you referring to that you're having problems with? My logic issue with "Let's Just Go Use Player X!" is that if there's some new file format or codec - or even functionality that Player X doesn't support, such as embedded scripting or remoting, then at that point you're having to spin the wheel to go use some other random player. Given that, it would seem most logical to fix the problem at hand first, and THEN pitch alternate players. =) -- Speaking for myself only. See http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html for some helpful WMP info.
