Photo date taken vs. file date

How can I get Vista Media Center photo gallery to show the date when a photo
was taken, now what I see is the date of the file. Vista cannot be so dumb
that it uses the date when photo was created/modified on the disk rather than
when it was taken..or?

At least I found no setting to control this.

Thanks for help in advance
