Win DVD Maker eating up disk space

Each time I make a DVD with windows DVD maker it uses abour 5-8 gig of space.
I have a large hard drive, but I can't continue at this pace for long. How
do I reclaim this space?

Thanks, Allen

Re: Win DVD Maker eating up disk space

I believe that when you close DVD Maker, it deletes those large temporary
files it has used during the burning process. So you should not be seeing
any kind of big files remaining. Can you tell us something more about the
files you are seeing, like what is the file type and in what folder?

Re: Win DVD Maker eating up disk space

Here is what happened. I looked at properties of my C: drive and it said I
had 52 GB of free space. Then I opened DVD Maker and made three DVD's from
movie files already on my couputer. After I was done, I closed the program
(didn't save the project) and looked at the C: drive properties again and
this time I had 43 GB free space! I rebooted a couple of times and still
can't reclaim the space. I have no idea what kind of files it is hanging on
to or where they are located. It's all a mystry to me.

======================================
Maybe you have some DVD Maker project files you
could delete. Try doing a search for .msdvd files.

Re: Win DVD Maker eating up disk space

The thing about the .msdvd files per se is they are very small (1 kb or 2
kb) -- they are like the .mswmm files used by Windows Movie Maker, only a
'recipe' that references the video files that are to be burned, so deleting
them would not return the space the OP is looking for.

To verify that those temporary folders are being deleted when you close
WDVDM, you can assign a location of your choice for the DVD Maker Temporary
file location instead of the default location. Go to the Options menu and
enter your desired location in the box labeled Temporary file location. I
have done this and was able to observe the temporary files prior to closing
DVD Maker. Then, when I closed DVD Maker, these files disappeared. You
will see several folders and files in that location prior to closing DVD
Maker; an example name of one of the folders is AuthorScript.tmp; you will
also see your movie clip files as video and audio clips. It is useful to
get yourself to that point for the learning experience. I can assure you
that, in my case, the DVD Maker temporary file is deleted when DVD Maker
closes. Hope this helps.
