Vista - Why are my TIF files not in media library?

Why are my TIF files not in media library?

If I right click and use the 'Open With' option Media player will display my
tif files, as well as Photo Gallery, but they will not go into the library.
If I rename the file from .tif to .jpg it will load into the library and
display the file fine. The files are tif not jpg. I would think I shouldn't
have to rename the file to get this to work. I want to use Media Center and
if there not in the library they won't be in Media Center. Please help.

Re: Why are my TIF files not in media library?

They're picture pictures, not album art. The player explicitly excludes
content that is unlikely to be album related.

Re: Why are my TIF files not in media library?

The library under Pictures not Music. Click Library then select Pictures in
media player. This library appears to be the same as Picture Library in
Media Center which I can not get my tif pictures into. I have tried in Media
Center under Library Setup, Add folder to watch. Media Center will not see
my tifs and will not load them into the library, but will if a rename the
file to .jpg. Why?

Yes, I'm familiar with what you're referring to, and am friends with the
people who wrote the code you're running here. =)

The *Pictures* node in the library does not include *Photos*. The
delineation point, as you have already pointed out, excludes TIFF.

Re: Why are my TIF files not in media library?

What about Window Media Center then? Is not Windows Media Center - Picture
Library suppose to support tiff? Is it not written to browse your photos?
This link says tiff is supported in Windows Media Center, but I can't get
Media Center to put tiff files in the library.
http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Win...201033.mspx#EX
The code seems to read the tiff in the Picture Library fine if I rename the
file to .jpg but it is not a jpg. What gives?

Re: Why are my TIF files not in media library?

Media Center and the Player are using the same database.

Yes, the delineation again is "Picture Library" vs "Photo Library".

The files are supported and should work fine, they simply are not candidates
to be added to the library, sorry. The suggestion has been passed on. =)

Re: Why are my TIF files not in media library?

I can view .tif files via Media Center but not Media Player!?!?!!?

Media Center calls it a picture library.

As does Media Player.

Even after following instructions outlined here:

http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb262305.aspx

No luck!

Re: Why are my TIF files not in media library?

I'm confused exactly what you're trying to do that is failing. TIFF isn't
really designed for "playback" within random media application.

Re: Why are my TIF files not in media library?

I'm not trying to do anything but help the OP. I assume the OP wants to
view pictures on a TV. The design of Media Center (oversize text & icons)
leads me to believe it's intended for that purpose.

It seems to me if an application is going to catalog & display still
pictures, as Media Player & Media Center do, it should be capable of doing
so for all file types of PerceivedType 'image', not just jpeg files.
