Vaio video playback in muted grey, no color

I'm totally stumped, hoping someone can offer suggestions.

I have a new Sony Vaio notebook VGN SZ670N with NVIDIA GeForce 4800M GS
running Vista. When I try to play a .wmv file or a DVD movie, the video is
displayed in muted "washed-out" grey shades only, no color. Sound is OK.
I've tried the following players all with the same result:
- Windows Media Player
- Real Player
- Intervideo WinDVD

Quicktime plays videos correctly. Photos are displaying correctly, no other
display anomalies have been observed.

I've talked with Sony help on a few occasions and have tried the following
(not necessarily in this order):
1) reset the BIOS to defaults
2) re-installed the shared services library
3) re-installed the shared video library
4) updated the Intel Video Driver
5) updated the NVIDIA Driver
6) updated the Windows Media Player
7) installed the K-Lite Codec pack
8) un-installed the K-Lite Codec pack

My colleague bought the exact same Vaio model on the same day from the same
dealer. His video works fine. I believe mine has not been working from the
beginning, but I can't recall exacly as I dont use video often.

If anyone can point me in a fruitful direction it would be wonderful, thanks.

RE: Vaio video playback in muted grey, no color

SOLUTION FOUND:
I'm replying to my own message because I see someone else found a solution
that worked for me. Here's the link to the discussion:
http://www.techsupportforum.com/hard...-thoughts.html
See comment by Setman.

To summarize, here's what worked for me:
In my NVIDIA control panel, under "Video and Television" category, choose
"Adjust video color settings". Under the various sliders there is a check box
labeled "Apply these settings to all video technologies". By unchecking
this box, everything has started working correctly.

Sony support never mentioned this. Under the discussion link above someone
also talks about a method to reset the NVIDIA driver that might be helpful.
