| | Photo Gallery changes Modified Date Hello guys, I have been using Windows XP for years. Recently I installed Windows Vista Ultimate. Before Vista there was a great product called Windows Pictures and Fax Viewer which also has a feature to change Picture layout (rotate left/right). The nice thing about it was that while changing the layout it did not change the file's Modified Date. Now, in Vista's Photo Gallery, this feature is missing. I mean, you can still rotate pictures, but it changes the Modified date to todays date. This is not good, as the pictures then are not arranged properly by date/time, and the only way to arrange them is to use Date Taken attribute (which is not standard file attribute and only present in .jpg files). I would like you to advise: 1. how to setup Photo Gallery that it does not change last Modified Date on changing the picture layout. 2. Alternatively, please advice is it possible to install XP's Picture and Fax viewer on Vista. I hope you will include this wish list in your enhancement list and update the system to have this functionality in Photo Gallery. ---------------- This post is a suggestion for Microsoft, and Microsoft responds to the suggestions with the most votes. | | Re: Photo Gallery changes Modified Date You cannot install Picture and Fax Viewer on Vista. Sort by Date Taken. | | Re: Photo Gallery changes Modified Date Thanks Bob for your very helpful reply. In fact, I did some homework and found that it is impossible to install Picture and Fax Viewer on Vista. BTW, if you type 'Picture and Fax Viewer on Vista' in google you would find that there are some many people out there desperately trying to return back good old Picture and Fax Viewer you'll probably start thinking that probably Microsoft has a problem here. Why remove good old stuff from new programs? RE: Sort by date taken. Yes, you are right, I can sort by this column. BUT, 1. Not ALL pictures have this tag 2. Not all file managers display this column. Actually, I marked the original post as 'Suggestion for Microsoft', not as a technical support question. | | Re: Photo Gallery changes Modified Date Thank you Bob for your helpful reply. In fact, I did some homework and know that it is impossible to install Picture and Fax Viewer on Vista. BTW, if you type 'Picture and Fax Viewer on Vista' in google you would find that a lot of people out there desperately trying to return good old Picture and Fax Viewer to 'brand new Vista'. And, actually a guy found a way to install it on Vista, but he does not know how (something to do with Ofiice 2003). I marked the original post as 'Suggestion for Microsoft', because I do believe that when you develop something new you should take good stuff from previous programs, and apply new features on top of that. RE: Sorting by Date taken. You cannot always sort by this tag because: 1. Not all pictures have this tag (try to create an image in MSPAINT and save it as .jpg) 2. This tag is not always visible in explorer (depends on content) Regards, Andrew "Bob" wrote: Quote: > You cannot install Picture and Fax Viewer on Vista. > > Sort by Date Taken.
