AVI files won't work in Windows Movie Maker

I've seen a few related topics, but nothing that specifically addressed my
issue, so I hope this hasn't already been answered elsewhere.
All the .avi files I have tried to import into Windows Movie Maker have only
had the audio, and when I've opened the properties window, it says that they
are audio files, even though I imported them as video. Random video clips
that came with my computer (.wmv files) work. I know that other people have
had to convert their files to .avi files to make them work, but what do you
do when it is .avi files that won't work?

    Thanks in advance,
    Kay

I've got the same problem, how'd you get it to work? I've installed a vista codec package from a different post which suggested and confirmed this method worked, but I still have the "audio file" problem with no video.

An avi file can be compressed by lots of different codecs. If one doesn't
work then it's usually about converting it to another that does.

See the Import Movie Source Files > Video > AVI page of my website.
