| | volume control disappears; where's the exe The volume control icon in the taskbar keeps disappearing apparently at its own whim. Very frustrating and annoying. In older versions of Windows, the exe had an option for the control to appear or not in the taskbar. Unfortunately, I can't find the exe. What is it called? Where is it at? Why does this keep happening? How can it be stopped? |

| | Re: volume control disappears; where's the exe Thanks for the info. That checkbox is also available from the Start menu's property pages. The problem was that it was greyed out and I could not check it. Instead I went to Control Panel |Sound |Playback |Properties |Levels and found the Speakers button was marked with mute symbol. I clicked it to unmute. Then went back to the location you mentioned and the checkbox was now re-enabled. I checked it and the volume control icon again became visible in the taskbar where it belongs. Problem solved .What I don't get is why it happened in the first place. I dislike it when Vista decides to do what it thinks is best for me without asking me first.
