No sound or crackings when playing DVD

Hello.

I have a problem when I play DVDs on Windows Vista Pre-RC1 and RC1 (I
haven't tried on Beta 2) : I have no sound or there are crackings instead of
the correct sound when I play my DVDs on Media Player or Media Center.

I don't have the problem when I play MPEG movies stored on my hard drive.

I don't have any problems at all when playing DVDs with Windows XP.

Thanks for your answers.

Re: No sound or crackings when playing DVD

I get sound fading. Sound level decreases over say ten or fiftenn minutes to
nothing. If I log off and back on it is restored.

Re: No sound or crackings when playing DVD

Sounds like you need updated sound card drivers, check the manufacturers
website.

RE: No sound or crackings when playing DVD

Are you using Media Center to play the dvd's? According to the RC1 FAQ, sound
problems with DVD playback in MC are a known issue.

Re: No sound or crackings when playing DVD

I have the same problem with Media Center and Media Player

On the contrary, when I play DVD in Interactual Player or WinDVD, I have no
problem

Re: No sound or crackings when playing DVD

Same problem here with DVDs. Can go play Mpegs with sound, no problem, but
anything on DVD plays fine, but just silent.

Re: No sound or crackings when playing DVD

Was this a clean install of RC1, or an upgrade from earlier pre-releases of
Vista? We are investigating an issue with the setup of audio decoder during
upgrades. Clean install should not have this problem, AFAIK. We would like to
know if it is otherwise.

Re: No sound or crackings when playing DVD

Was this a clean installation of RC1, or was it an upgrade from an earlier
pre-release (beta2 or otherwise)? We are investigating a setup issue that
impacted the audio decoder used for DVD playback during such updates. We
would like to know if the problem occurred for clean installs.

Re: No sound or crackings when playing DVD

Totally clean. Formatted the whole HD prior to doing installation.

Re: No sound or crackings when playing DVD

We have isolated the problem to a code defect in audio decoder that shows-up
on Intel Pentium 3 or AMD K7 class of processors.
