Windows Media Player Has Stopped working

Whenever I plug in my Sandisk Fuze MP3 player, I receive the message "Windows Media Player Has Stopped Working" and it shuts down.. It will also happen when disconnecting as well.. I am running Vista Ultimate 32bit SP1, with all updates applied.. What I have done so far:

1) Searched for duplicate wmp.dll files (never had that satellite program installed)
2) Reset the DRM store
3) Reset the WMP library

The problem report is as follows:

Windows Media Player

Re: Windows Media Player Has Stopped working

If it always happens with regards to the Sandisk Fuze, that makes me think
that that driver might be buggy. Is there updated driver/firmware available
from Sandisk here?

Re: Windows Media Player Has Stopped working

Zach,

Well, it was happening also with some USB flash drives as well.. The end result was, an upgrade install of Vista on top of itself corrected the problem.. One thing that was evident before I did that was whenever I would plug the device in, wmplayer.exe would run -- whereas now after the repair install of Vista, WUDFHost.exe runs instead.. I no longer get the crash in wmplayer.exe and the device syncs much quicker with Rhapsody..

Does that shed any light on what may have been causing the problem? FWIW, before I did the repair install, the "Windows Driver Foundation - User-mode Driver Framework" service was set to start automatically, but I never saw the .exe run in the processes..

Thanks,
Rick

Re: Windows Media Player Has Stopped working

Honestly it sounds like WiMP was simply trying to asses the viability of the device as a 3rd party music device, as can be set in WiMP settings, and at that point it would crash for whatever reason.

Makes sense also that the reinstall fixed it as whatever DLL that WiMP was calling when it started scanning your UFDs was crashing it was replaced / fixed.

Absolutely nothing to do with my issue, and I never mentioned a thing about no audio.. But thanks for trying.

As it turns out -- my problem was due to a WMP plugin installed by Trillian Astra. Problem solved by disabling said plugin.
