Oh, I do so hope that this is the right forum, just found you and can see there are some very experienced minds. I am not a "geek", rather 48 y/o capable of handling computers but better with A/V, though not a geek or audio/vidofile there either. Anyhow, after 12 months research I purchased Xbox Elite (great sale at Amazon!) and managed in only one night to get it up and running on my hard wired network, recognizing my Vista Media Center on Home Premium. All is working VERY WELL overall, more than 10,000 songs and 30,000 pictures in who knows how many folders show and play fiarly quickly and receiving erros or freezing only every few days and never yet needing reboot to get past. Much better than I expected.
Anyhow, I finally started doing what I set this up for with pics, which is "tagging" my pictures. All pictures reside (after I realized they had to) in the Public Pictures folder and all are seen in folders, sub-folders, etc. by Xbox. I began setting up "tags" using the Windows Photo Gallery (as instrucred by Vista Help), and setup a tree of tags. I began dragging sets of photos to different tags - did not pay a lot of attention to what I was doing (unfortunately given the situatoin).
So, here is the "glitch" - all my tags show perfectly in Windows Media Center - all the "tag cloud structure" (mixing metafors, maybe incorrectly excuse me if so) seems intact on my Vista and is working perfectly. BUT, on Xbox, Only 105 pics in one particular sub-folder show up - NOTHING ELSE. The "structure" is there (meaning I have to go 3 folder levels down to get to the pics), but none of the pics in the upper folders are there, none of the other "tag folders" are there, and even the folder that is showing is showing less than half of the images that are actually tagged to that folder?!?!?!?! I have done a "properties" check side by side with both the folder and a few images in those that are visible to the Xbox, compared with the folder and a few images from the folder of images that are in the same tag set but are not showing, and I cannot see any differences in General, Security, Sharing, or anything else between the actual place holding folders or their files.
I AM COMPLETELY STUMPED. Anyone with similar experience and fix, or if not, anyone care to apply their intellect and knowledge to this one? PLEASE HELP!!!
Thanks in advance,
Peter
