Re: WMP stopped working

This one's easy. Look for 'ac3filter.cpl'. Why do you have it installed?
Looks like it's broken and should be removed/uninstalled.

You can't really remove it. One work around solution is to install
other players like GOM and VLC and just associate multimedia file
types with those.

Logic? You mean Microsoft don't like you trying to uninstall their
crap from YOUR computer?

Why are customers FORCED to keep Media Player, Windows Explorer on
their system?

Got a real answer or just more MS BS?

Re: WMP stopped working

What did you install here, by the way? Did you perhaps install Total Video
Converter? If so, which version from where? I'd like to track them down
and ask them to update their version of ac3filter here if possible.

Thanks for any leads you can provide - always good to help fix the source of
the problem. =)

Cheers,
-Zach

Nah, Microsoft makes a variety of mistakes, like most of the world. It's
not my problem if you're bat-crazy enough to think that's the way I think.
You don't appear to know anything about the way I think, so why bother
commenting upon that aspect? You really have nothing better to do with your
life? =)

Yes, your comment had nothing to do with the subject matter and thus was
totally irrelevant to why I was responding to it. If people in every
product forum said "Oh You Have A Problem Well Stop Using That Software" -
you kind of get into a pretty pathetic world pretty quickly.

*shrug*

I'm here as a "technical angel". I've got no business or personal need to
repeat basic SKU composition logic
within the context of why AC3Filter.cpl blows up on a divide-by-zero error.
Let's have SKU composition discussions in some other venue some other time.
It's a pretty boring discussion so you can have it by yourself, really - I
think that's all been covered before. God forbid I actually help solve
somebody's problem without pandering to the pro or anti "totally unrelated
issue" crowd. =)

I mean, if you really care about this subject, look into Windows Embedded or
vLite or maybe see where Windows 7 is going here. It's not really my issue
if your knickers are in a bunch, and it's definitely not my issue if you
attempt to barge in on unrelated topics and are surprised when you're
ignored.

If you're actually an intellectual, the slashdot discussion today might be
of interest. And really, from the MS perspective this has been covered
before. And see the previous paragraph, anyways.
If you're actually an anti-intellectual/griefer... well, I'm not terribly
surprised. And again, it saddens me how some people choose to live their
lives. =)

Finally, as far as I'm aware, this issue touches upon ongoing legal
concerns. As such, I'm generally probably not available to discuss this
"casually" in public forums, even if you "promise" to understand that I'm
speaking for myself only as I always attempt to make very clear. <3

So: booooooooring.

You keep doing the only thing you're good at... ===> avoiding the
issues raised.

You're the Rush Limbaugh of this forum. Like that buffoon, you think
the world revolves around you and that you're God's gift to mankind.

Funny, the rest of us think both of you just love to hear yourself
blubber BS.
