windows photo gallery - color balance comes out very wrong

Strange problem

Thumbnails are correct, slideshow is correct, but somehow when i double
click on any jpeg or other picture file, the image is very yellow, as if
someone added 500 kelvin to the image. This happens with all my files.

Is windows trying to automatically correct color balance in the opened file
? How come it gets it wrong in the viewer but not in the thumbnail ?

Any advice ?

It could be that the thumbnails have an embedded sRGB profile so thay are
displaying correctly on your monitor (I presume you monitor is not
profiled??). The main images might have a different profile attached to them
and this is not being interpreted correctly.
