DVD Maker Won't Burn WMV files...

Hi folks,

I have successfully burned DVD Video Disks using MPG files but not WMV
files. Most of my videos are WMV. I can burn WMV FILES to disk using
explorer but cannot create a DVD using DVD Maker or Movie Maker with source
files of WMV.

I'm not burning copy protected files.

All documentation I've read suggests WMV files are fine to create DVD Video
Disks in Vista RC2. I've used + and - R and chosen all three speeds;
fastest, medium and slow. No DVD is created.

The encoding process gets to 99.0%, says finishing disc. Please wait. But
when it gets to burning; the drive opens and there is an error message
saying: Cannot Create the DVD. An error occurred when burning the DVD.

Anyone know of a solution to burning DVD Video (menus etc.) using WMV source
files?

Thank you for any insight,

Terry

Re: DVD Maker Won't Burn WMV files...

I've burnt a 3 WMV disks with DVD Maker on RC1, but only those with
shorter/smaller content completed. One which would have been nearly a full
DVD time-wise took about 12 hours top get to about 82% and never got any
further. No error reported ... just 12 hours wasted making toast.

I've had the same error once, but with MPG files. I've never had a problem
with WMV or AVI source files. I just closed the disk drawer and started over
and it worked.

The problem has been reported in the past, but I have never seen an
explanation / solution.

Re: DVD Maker Won't Burn WMV files...

Thank you for the response Mike.

So I tried a smaller WMV file (3.7MB) It worked perfectly. That's ashame but
at least productive. I've got some really cool video from television to
share with friends.

The Two WMV files I want to make into DVD Video is only 872MB combined - on
a DVD.

again thank you for your response. It prompted me to burn a LITTLE file and
it worked just fine. So what is the problem with decent file sized? Someone?

Terry

Re: DVD Maker Won't Burn WMV files...

Thank you for your response Dave; I tried the DVD I wanted to make again,
there was that error again, like you said; I re-inserted the disk and again
chose to burn. Same error.

That is very interesting you had trouble with MPG files, I have none. I have
trouble with WMV files, you have none.

I wonder what is going on?

Terry

Re: DVD Maker Won't Burn WMV files...

No idea what's going on.

I burned 4 WMV files ranging in size from 13-56MB with no problenm.
When I burned 5 WMV files, each less than 250MB I had problems.

All the WMV files were produced by Windows Movie Maker, came from the same
folder on disk. I've burned them to DVD subsequently as files rather than
DVD-video, and they play fine on other devices.
