Vista - Windows Photo Gallery Issues

I'm new to Vista so I apologize if this is a bad question. I'm using
Enterprise Edition w/ SP1. Today I hooked up my camera to upload some
pictures to the Vista machine. Worked fine and the pictures uploaded
properly. When I went to view the pictures is when the problems started.
Some pictures would open instantly while others take up to a minute to open.
I also have problems if I try to rename a picture file. Sometimes the rename
is instant, other times it will take a minute. I searched around and found
some related articles but no fix. One article suggested changing the view
from "Large Icons" to "Small Icons" but that didn't make a difference.

This is a brand new Vista install on a brand new laptop. Problem occurs
with no other applications running (other than the background processess like
AV and system apps, etc). System performance monitor looks fine.

Any ideas would be appreciated. It's not a huge problem just annoying.
