SD Card Problems

Im running an e-machines pc complete with intergrated card reader on Vista Home edition 32bit.
I had no problem with the card reader until one day I thought i'd safely eject the card, big mistake since then the computer has been claiming not to see the card at all.
The card option is still visable via My computer but is greyed out as to say there is nothing inserted, i've tried 3 sd cards now (2gb, 64mb and 128mb) with the same conclusion thinking it was a problem I installed all service packs and updates and even resorted to re-installing the hardware twice using the backup drivers on the hard-drive and also off the manufacturers website but still to no avail, Device manager says its installed with a generic SD card reader but the item remains to be greyed out, the computer recognizes its plugged it, the green light lights up when inserted and I get the little egg times type thing for a second or 2 but still have no access.
Has this happened to anyone else before and if so how did you resolve it, personally I hate vista for these small reasons but its not my pc and needs to be sorted otherwise the other half is going to do bad things to me, any help appreciated

Re: SD Card Problems

You say that you used "safely eject". But there is not such an option. There is either "safely remove" or "eject". For SD cards, you should always use "eject". The "safely remove" cuts the power to the card reader on many makes (although on some other makes it does not matter). Normally, the power comes back after a reboot. Did you try that?

Re: SD Card Problems

From Device Manager Uninstall the card reader, then reboot.

AFAIK there is no need to use "safely eject" with a memory card. You
just pull it out. I have never used "safely eject".

Re: SD Card Problems

As another poster noted there is no "safely eject" option. The options
given are "safely remove" of "eject".
