How do you turn off transparent subtitles in Media Center?

When playing a DVD in Windows Media Center in fullscreen mode, if I turn on
the subtitles for the DVD, they are made transparent. Unfortunately, they
tend to be too transparent and blend in with the DVD picture, making them
hard (and sometimes impossible) to read. Is there any way to disable this
feature and just display the subtitles with their normal opacity?

I've tested this on Vista Ultimate (RTM, both 32-bit and 64-bit versions).
It only happens when Media Center is in fullscreen mode. In windowed mode,
the subtitles are opaque as they should be.

On the 32-bit install I have an ATI FireGL 300 card with the latest drivers
from Microsoft (via Windows Update).
On the 64-bit install I have an ATI All-in-Wonder X800 with the latest beta
drivers from ATI (release 12/13/2006).

RE: How do you turn off transparent subtitles in Media Center?

You are definately not alone, I am experiencing the same problem exactly as
you describe. I am hoping that Microsoft will be releasing an update for the
DVD Decoder that is included in Windows Vista as I hate this problem as well
as the fact that it only renders DVD videos in interlaced mode.

Does anyone know of an actual third party decoder that actually works
flawlessly with Vista yet? (I have heard of many attempts to use alternate
decodes but none successful).
