Vista - Photo Gallery: How to add Slide Show?

Photo Gallery: How to add Slide Show?

Wonderful, I have all my pictures in Vista Photo Gallery, added Copyright and
Tags.
Now, I want to create slideshows. How do I do that?

The only way I could think of is: Add a special Tag for each slideshow I
want. Gut still: The order would not be freely definable.

How do I
- create a sequence of photos without duplicating them physically?
- define transitional effects?
- save it for future use?

Can I do this with Photo Gallery or do I need another program? Which one is
best?

Your help is very much appreciated.
Beat

RE: Photo Gallery: How to add Slide Show?

Make sure you change the folder properties to photo/ video (right click on
the folder then choose properties, then customize Use folder type as
template, use the dropdown list to pick pictures and video.) then a slideshow
option will be on the tool bar of the open folder.

RE: Photo Gallery: How to add Slide Show?

Many thanks, Bobfather

Your tipp allowes me to view the content of a folder as a slideshow.

But this is not enough.

I want to compose a slideshow from img's coming from different folders,
having different filenames, different timestamps, different tags.
Then I want to sort the pictures manually and define transtition effects
between the pictures
Finally, I want to save the slideshow for future use.

If I understand you response, it does not answer this.

So the question remains:
- Can I do this in Vista
- or do I need to buy another Software.
- What ist he best SW for this?

I did like ACDC, It can do the above, but it does ot exist for Vista.

Can you please give me a hint?

Re: Photo Gallery: How to add Slide Show?

Hi Beat,

Have you tried Windows Movie Maker already? It helps you import audio/video/pictures from different locations in the hard drive, add transition effects. Eventually it creates a video file (.wmv). This can be used for slideshows.

Re: Photo Gallery: How to add Slide Show?

Yes, Ramesh, I tryed MovieMaker.

It is great to arrange pictures, define Transitions, add tone and to export
the finished show. Specially nice is, that I can embed the littel movies I
made with my photo camera.

It has the following disadvantages:
- it 'copies' the images.
- the screen resolution is lousy.
- during viewing, I cannot zoom in/out of my picture to show Details (If I
made a 360-Picture from a 8000M Peak for example)

But you are right: The people programming the MovieMaker have 95% of the
work done. They should just add the features needed for slidshows:
- work with pointers to the files instead of copys
- giving me the full resolution (or a resolution of my choice) at viewing time
- integrate an "Export" function that would copy the viewer, pictures and
the metainformation to a DVD so I could easily show my slides on a friends PC.

The question is still open:
- With what SW shall I produce my slideshow?

Best regards
Beat

Re: Photo Gallery: How to add Slide Show?

You might try Microsoft's PhotoStory 3. It is a free download.
It allows multiple photos from anywhere on your system, transitions, special
effects like the 'Ken Burns effect' (focusing on a spot on your photo and
then moving around or staying stationary, allows you to highlight a specific
area of the picture, etc.) and add music. You can turn it into a movie
suitable for burning to a CD or DVD.
Oh, you can also add narration and there is even a built in -- but
limited -- soundtrack maker that lets you create 'music' out of a decent
selection of sounds and tones. Pretty cool stuff.

Re: Photo Gallery: How to add Slide Show?

Thanks for your hint, George.

But this PhotoStory does the same as MovieMaker: It makes a low resolution
movie out of my high resolution photos.
This is not what I want.

- Each image should exist on disk just 1 time.
- the slide show-program should just memorize the sequence and the
transitions.
- and it should be able to read the EXIF-Info so I can use the cataloging I
did already in Photo Gallery

Re: Photo Gallery: How to add Slide Show?

Actually, that is not quite right. You can make very high resolution movies
out your slide shows. The problem is that when you put them on any medium
other than your computer, the resolution will degrade. For example, if you
want to burn a DVD, the resolution will be changed to match that of the DVD.
How do you want to distribute your slideshows?

Re: Photo Gallery: How to add Slide Show?

Sorry, did not see the EXIF requirement. Photostory is probably not for you
then.
Adobe has a product that would probably work well for you.

Re: Photo Gallery: How to add Slide Show?

Thanks again, George.

Size is not a problem: If I have a show of 50 Pictures, 3 MB average size,
this is 150 M. I add 20 M Metainformation - this is still not much.

What I do not understand: Photo Gallery has most of the necessary functions.
I can search my Images and dispaly them. What they should do: Allow to sort
the selected images and allow to save the list in an XML-File. Also: They
shold add the posibility to save copy the images the list points to to a DVD
renamed according to the sorting.

Adobe Photoshop (the small Version) is a big and complicated product. 90 %
of the functionalyity is related to edit images - this is not necessary.

regards
Beat
