Why doesn't this filter in Windows Photo Gallery work?

I have pictures of my dog, Chico, tagged as 'Chico.' When I try to filter
search typing 'Chico' (just as the tag is spelled), it doesn't do anything.
I can type any other tag, even rename the 'Chico' tag to 'Chinchilla' and it
works when I just type the first three letters, 'Chi,' which is the same as
when the tag is 'Chico.' But when the tag is 'Chico,' it does nothing. Why?
What is wrong? Is there a cache I should clear somewhere? Should I repair
Widows Photo Gallery? What do I do?

RE: Why doesn't this filter in Windows Photo Gallery work?

You know, I hate to say this, because I really like Vista.
Microsoft released it too early.
I have found a number of very annoying bugs one of which is the one your
having...

Media player continues to play when you close it. Sometimes. Happened
through out the beta's as well.

Tags don't always bring up the pic you tagged.

Searches for a couple of words in a document don't always bring up that word
document.

IE7 stops bringing up links when you click them, it just sits there.
Sometimes.

Nvidia is getting sued cuz their video drivers are kind of 50-50 with Vista.

A LOT of people don't have sound when they first install it. Creative doing
a decent job there.

Mobility Center is broken right out of the box. For many devices you have to
go get the updated version 6 that is inexplicably absent from the automatic
updates. And try doing a search for that on MS website. You won't find it.
Google will though. MS has the WORST search functionality on their website. I
have to go to google to find anything on ms website. Although the Vista
search is my new best friend.

Can't play AVI files? Neither can I. I'm sure there's a codec somewhere for
that. Not on windows update though. ? Worked throughout the betas fine.

Can't see the webcam at www.thesquire.com ? I could with the betas. Not with
a fresh install of Vista Ultimate.

Does anyone know of a gadget I can download that has a 5 star rating? How
come the weather gadget can't gimme the windspeed and direction? Unless I
click a bunch?

Try to explain to an old person how to drag and drop a file to move it.
Because the explorer bar has no move or copy file command on it. Old people
can click, but most of them can't drag and drop.

Sleep wont' work properly unless you update the bios. I can let that one
slide.

HP is shipping pc's that come with free printers that won't work unless you
go to the website and download drivers.

Best Buy is selling Gateway pc's, that turn off the free Windows Defender
and make you purchase Spysweeper for $40 a year.

Norton exectuives should be lined up in a row and forced to deal with the
crap that guys like me have to deal with on a daily basis with their crappy
software...

Ok I guess i'm wandering now... needed to vent a little... thanks for
listening...

Re: Why doesn't this filter in Windows Photo Gallery work?

Hi Jimmy!
I'm a fan of Vista too, but I'm ok with it's release...but...I do share some
of your woes and one you did not mention but don't experience some of the
others, and this is on an HP Media Center PC with an in place upgrade over
XP MCE 2005.
First, avi's play fine for me. Odd they don't for you...divx, maybe?
Searches also SEEM to work--and very, very well too. I like it.
I've not had the IE 7 problem, though I have had it error...which brings me
to my issue that you did not mention.
Every now and again, while browsing, I get 'Remote Access Dialer has stopped
working' and then the whole 'windows is searching for...' dialog. Have to
then stop the remote access service and restart it. Internet connectivity
breaks otherwise. I get EVERY FREAKING TIME I start and close iTunes and
get it sometimes with WMP11. I had to fully turn off the media sharing to
get it to a more stable state. It started, btw, about a week ago when I got
the windows update for IEEE1394. Oddly enough, it is also the same time I
started using a WD My Book firewire drive. Could be a connection there.
Searches on the 'net have been meaningless. I will have to go to MS it
seems. Sigh.

Oh, copy and move in Explorer is still there...Goto LAYOUT under the
ORGANIZE button and turn on the menu. Select a file to move, then select
EDIT-->Move To. Same as in XP, just buried a bit. It should be a context
menu selection.

Anyway, Vista coulda used a bit more polished, but I think all in all, it is
a winner.

Re: Why doesn't this filter in Windows Photo Gallery work?

When i go to explorer and enable the menu options, there is in fact an
ability to click on an option to move a folder...

Why isn't it right on the bar up top next to slide show??
Why can't i put it on the bar?

pisses me off, that yeah I may want to "burn" "share" "email" etc.. but do i
not want to move or copy?; as one of the most used options?

I'll keep drinking the cool aid but fix it pleeeeeeeeeeeese..

by the way Bill if your reading this... look on the wall of your office,,, I
am on one of those pictures. and i'm here because of you.... thanks for
that...
