| | Media Center has stopped working Help! I have upgraded from MCE to Vista Home Premium on my Sony Vaio laptop. Got graphics drivers sorted out for the Go Force 7600 alright and everything is fairly stable. BUT - whenever I fire up Media Center it gives me the error 'Media Center has stopped working'. I have loked for an ehshell.crash file mentioned in other forums and cannot find it (search brings back nothing). I think the services I need are running and the firewall should not be a problem. When I connect from my XBOX 360, the PC recognises the request and starts the setup procedure for the connection, but then I get the same dialog box and the process ends. Is anyone getting the same thing and is there a resolution? Thanks! |

| | RE: Media Center has stopped working I am having almost the exact same issue on my Toshiba Satellite. GeForce Go 7900, using the nvidia 100.64 beta drivers and everything seems to be running smoothly - divx works with thumbnails, resolution at 1440 x 900, dreamscene work (usually), but MC still crashes. Same error too, ehshell.exe. Anyone got anything? "Rich" wrote: > Help! | | Re: Media Center has stopped working Hi. Thanks - I used that site to get the graphics drivers installed with the custom inf file - thought that might have been causing a problem as I used a generic inf before. Now the OS recognises the 7600 GO. I dont think that is the problem - unless there is a fundamental problem with the chipset not being supported by MC yet... Every time I start MC the following problem report gets generated (does not log to the event log). Needless to say there is no solution for this from the automoated service. Description Stopped working Problem signature Problem Event Name: CLR20r3 Problem Signature 01: ehshell.exe Problem Signature 02: 6.0.6000.16386 Problem Signature 03: 4549b55e Problem Signature 04: mcstoredb Problem Signature 05: 6.0.6000.0 Problem Signature 06: 4549bcf9 Problem Signature 07: 114 Problem Signature 08: 222 Problem Signature 09: System.InvalidOperationException OS Version: 6.0.6000.2.0.0.768.3 Locale ID: 2057 Extra information about the problem Bucket ID: 11717426 Any ideas? I have activated and registered Vista in case that made a difference - but it wasn't the cause. All help appreciated! | | Re: Media Center has stopped working Thanks for that - I found the problem with MS technical support yesterday. The issue was over permissions for the user. The account was computer administrator (as created in in MCE), but somehow the permissions for the user were screwed - probably in the upgrade to Vista HP. The problem became evident when we tried to rename the ehshell.exe as part of the diagnostic process - I did not have permissions to do this which was strange - refused to let me grant full control over files in the folder. The solution was to create a new user. MC worked straight away when I logged in with the new account. Thanks for the posts - hope this helps someone else.
