| | Get "Windows Media Center Receiver Service has stopped working" About every 45 seconds (if I let it) I get a pop-up telling me that the "Windows Media Center Receiver Service has stopped working". It has never worked with my tuner, a Hauppang HVR-950, but this message is getting really annoying. Should I / Can I just disable the service, or is Media center dying a slow and annoying death?? -- --gary |

| | RE: Get "Windows Media Center Receiver Service has stopped working" Me too! I have a Hauppage WinTV PVR 500 and it used to work fine and now as of today, March 16th, I get this stupid message every 30 seconds. Also, if I try to change the TV settings in Media Center it tells me I do not have a tuner installed although the two tuners show fine in Device Manager. I've also tried removing and reinstalling the video card to no avail. | | Re: Get "Windows Media Center Receiver Service has stopped working" Have you recently installed any programs? I got the same thing after installing Sonic Foundry Sound Forge XP 4.5 and another audio program (don't remember what it was though -- I threw out the CD after finding it was incompatible with Vista). Uninstalling the programs did not help. I had to use System Restore to get rid of the message and get Media Center working again. Hauppauge WinTV PVR USB2. All is working great now. | | RE: Get "Windows Media Center Receiver Service has stopped working Unfortunately - the only answer I've come up with is to go into services manager and disable the service. This of course, cripples the Tuner functionality of Media Center, but it's not working anyway - and it does stop the message from coming up over, and over, and over, and over..... -- --gary "gecko" wrote: > Me too! | | RE: Get "Windows Media Center Receiver Service has stopped working" This afternoon I started to get the same error message "windows media center receiver service stopped working.." I restarted the computer, Run Windows update, and Still can not get vista to operate the tv tuner. I have 2 ATI cards one cable and one hdtv over the air and never had a problem (2 years) until now. I'm desperate for a solution. I'll keep readng for possible solutions. | | Re: Get "Windows Media Center Receiver Service has stopped working" Did you install any programs recently? I had the same problem after installing two old audio programs (Sound Forge XP 4.5 and another I don't remember). Uninstalling the programs did not help. I had to do a System Restore to the point before both programs were installed. Everything is working great now. I have the WinTV PVR USB2. | | Re: Get "Windows Media Center Receiver Service has stopped working Problem Solved......! My problem appears to have been caused by a couple of codecs that I installed to to edit recorded tv programs with Windows Movie Maker (But that is a separate subject). I unistalled the codecs but that did not solved the problem, so a followed Cal Bear 66 sujestion and use the good ol' system restore and problem solved.
