For some weird reason, it doesn't work that way. It always imports all new
pictures. But it never re-imports pictures you've aleady imported. (At
least, that's the way it's supposed to work. I've never actually tried it).

How do I select only 1 or 2 pictures with Windows Import

Hi,

With Windows XP when I plugged in my Camera, the Import Wizard came up. I
got a thumbnail view of all the pictures on the camera and I could select
which ones I wanted to import. I could name the picture series and choose
the saving location.

I leave the pictures on the camera after import until backed up to CD in
case of a HD failure. I don't want to reimport all 256 pictures everytime I
connect the camera.

With Windows Vista there doesn't seem to be an option to select just one
picture? I have 3rd party software but would really like to stick to just
using the Windows importer.

How do I set the settings to select only 1 or 2 pictures without manually
having to drag and rename all the pictures the old way.

Thanks
Lara

RE: How do I select only 1 or 2 pictures with Windows Import

Because I can't edit-- adding on

I often have 200 new pictures or one I have already deleted because I didn't
want them. MS help says it will "detect" pictures already imported but I
only want to import one new one and not wait 30 minutes while it imports them
all including ones already imported to my other computers.

Another case of MS keep taking away XP functionality?

I guess it is back to a 3rd Party program to do what "used" to be built into
Windows. I thought Vista was suppose to be superior to XP for Pictures and
Video?

Re: How do I select only 1 or 2 pictures with Windows Import

Yes - But I have 5 computers in my house. I use one for storing Pictures and
another for just importing one or two I want for my website. I don't want to
store ALL 256 new pictures on Vista just so it won't keep reimporting them.

I am going with Google Picasa - It does what I want and is free.

Cheers,
Lara
