Vista - Photo Gallery defaults

In photo gallery when I go to print it is always defaulting to my HP Fax
driver even though that is not the default printer. Any idea how to fix this.

Anyone...The default printer is set correctly, however in Photo gallery it
always defaults to the HP Fax. How can we fix this....PLEASE....

It defaults to the last used printer. I guess this is intentional, and no option exists to turn off this setting.

Only way that I can think of is to open Regedit.exe and deny yourself write access for the following key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\PhotoPrintingWizard

Before that, make sure you delete the default printer entry in the right-pane. ( In the registry key discussed earlier.)

Thanks for the reply. No it didn't work and the value in the registry for
the photo gallery was not only correct, but the other printers were listed as
well. However once I open a picture and get to the Windows photo gallery
window with just the picture open, it still defaults to the fax and we have
changed and printed well over 100 photo's . But it isn't remembering or
defaulting to anything but the fax...

Anymore ideas?

Mike,

Note down the value data for "DefaultPrinter" value in this key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\PhotoPrintingWizard

Is it pointing to the "Fax" perhaps?

Also, try this:

Open Control Panel - Printers.
Right-click on the printer entry and choose "Set as Default Printer"

Since the correct printer was always the default, no such option exists unitl
it isn't the default. The Reg key was correct, however everytime I changed
it to something correct it would change back. Finally I deleted that line in
the key and it correctly put the default in. Thanks for the help. It was
truely driving me nuts....

Found the answer: Go to your Printers, and RENAME the one you'd like to get rid of (fax) as "B-Printer" (or just add B- to the printer name; ie: "B-HP Photosmart C7200 series fax"). Somehow, this renaming process takes over priority. It worked for me, no need to mess with the registry! Oh yes, be sure to keep/assign default properties to your preferred printer.

Side-effects: Your Fax printer consule might not recognize the Fax printer by name, but if you're willing to dismiss this for the benefit of a sleek solution, so be it...
