Music Detail folder not updating album image(s)

I have about 700+ folders of music artists, plus the album subfolders. All
mp3 files are properly tagged. The Music folder in my Vista account is set as
Music Details. I imported most of these folders when I got Vista on a new
computer. The images work for most of the folders, however all new music
folders I add are not refreshed with album images and display a non-empty
folder default icon.

On my girlfriends accounts somehow the images appear for new music I've
added through my account. (Her music folder points to my Music folder).

I cannot make the folder refresh (with the new image icons to appear), I
have tried various methods, at first it worked and now has stopped working (I
was changing the icon to something else then restoring back to the default).
Please help. Thank you.

Re: Music Detail folder not updating album image(s)

Count me in the group having this problem. I have been trying to find a
solution to this problem as well for the past few days. As hard as it is to
describe, the OP described the problem perfectly.

Steps I've taken to try and aleviate, uninstall all music players that may
have taken control of mp3 files (except for WMP 11) though I don't think that
is the problem. I've also started from scratch clearing the MP3 files using
mp3ext tool and retagged them using various mp3 tagging programs but nothing
has fixed it, still generic icons displayed. I'm wondering if perhaps my
running of CC Cleaner might have done something to the registry settings,
however albums that I'd tagged before installing Vista still display the
album artwork in the folder icon as Brian is experiencing. This has to be a
simple fix but I can't figure it out. Any help would be appreciated. I have
screenshot pictures to try and illustrate the problem if needed.

Re: Music Detail folder not updating album image(s)

I'm having this problem too. Great explanation by Brian. I've gone so far
as to remove all other mp3 players thinking perhaps there is some conflict
and maybe one had taken control of the icons but uninstalling did nothing to
fix the problem. I've also tried retagging the files using various mp3
tagging utilities and cleared the tags each time using mp3ext tool. I'm
wondering if running the cc cleaner utility might have changed applicable
registry entries, however as Brian is experiencing, all my other music
folders that had mp3s tagged prior to installing Vista still display the
album artwork. None that I've tagged since installing Vista do however. Any
help on the problem is appreciated.

(apologize if this is a double post, the last reply didn't appear to go
through)

RE: Music Detail folder not updating album image(s)

So here's what I've found so far. To get the icon to change and reflect the
album art there needs to be .jpg image in the folder that is named
'folder.jpg'. Usually this is a hidden file. Now how this hidden file is
produced is the trick. I use Musicmatch to batch tag the files including the
image but unlike in XP, it does not produce the necessary folder.jpg file (I
assume it did before because it worked in XP). I've noticed that once I move
the folder containing the mp3's for the album into the music folder where I
store all my mp3's (My Music folder) the folder.jpg file is created IF I have
windows media player open...if I don't have it open, the file is not created.
So the issue here seems to be which programs will generate the folder.jpg
file as it doesn't do it automatically in just Windows alone nor does
Musicmatch.
