| | Re: sd card and digital camera It would help to know what camera you have, and if you have a card reader. If you're not using the software that came woith the camera, just use the USB cable that came with the camera, plug it in to the computer and the camera. An auto play window should appear. Choose one of the options there. The easiest would probably be to choose "Import with Windows". This option will bring up WIndows Photo Gallery, which will allow you to choose what folder you want to place the images in and also allow you to tag the images. ***WARNING***: Given that importing, rating or tagging images via windows Photo Gallery moves some of the exif data around causing some of the data to be unreadable, If maintaining manufacturer's exif data is important to you, choose another option for importing and rating at the Auto Play window. MS is urging affected camera manufacturers to change the way they write the exif in order to avoid this. The above said, I find PG to be a great way to keep your images organized, instantly searchable (via tags) and rated. PG uses XMP, which is compatible with other programs such as PhotoShop Bridge. It is anticipated that XMP will become the standard. This is a good thing because it allows image ratings and tags to be read by other programs. And, given that XMP actually writes the tagging and rating info to the image file, you only have to rate and tag the images one time for it to be readable in other progarms. No proprietary database to be chained to. So, while I prefer that all exif data remain intact, I can stand the loss until it is all straightened out in favor of the organization and 'once and for all' tagging and rating. mxh "kerib32" <kerib32@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:CEF9D219-635A-42E5-9C34-9BFD513BD71B@microsoft.com... >I just started using windows vista but i cant figure out how to get my > pictures from my memory card |
