Vista - DELL CHEATING ON INTEGRATED SOUND CARD 7.1 ON VISTA

The Windows Media Player preinstalled in Windows Vista of DELL Dimension is
giving lot of trouble. There is a crackling and hesitation of the sound on
all types of files mp3,wma,cda, etc etc.
The resolution is to disable the enhancements of the Audio Codecs of the
system.
Once the enhancements are disabled the sorround sound and the quality of
sound is gone.
People are paying for the Integrated sound Audio Codecs 7.1 of DELL on the
system with VISTA.
IS THERE ANY FIX FOR THIS ?
The DELL tech Service people are not able to help as most of the call center
takers are not even aware of how to fix this problem.
Microsoft does not want to help except sending a link to their library.
What is the resolution.

Hi,

this is not necessarily related to the sound card - I heard of problems with
the driver for Realtek network cards that causes crackling sound. You can try
this: Go & download the most recent drivers from Dell for your integrated
soundcard & network card - if there is no driver available it will be
integrated in vista. Download and save them to disk. Then go into device
manager and uninstall the sound device. When uninstalling, choose "delete the
driver ..." to be sure that the system will look for a new one. If there's
one found via Windows Update it's great and it will be installed
automatically - otherwise install the driver you just downloaded. If this
still does not help, try the same with your network card.

Normally it's just about switching drivers. OEM's like dell do often
integrate their own drivers instead of built-in Vista drivers which can cause
trouble.
But since the disortion is only when you enable the enhancement, there are
two things I would consider else: Look into task manager for processes that
consume much CPU-ressources (it's visible in the processes-tab) with the
sound enhancement turned on - maybe the process that produces the sound has
to high latency because of other running processes. Try to identify what's
running on your system and if the sound problems can be solved with freeing
some resources/ending some unneeded processes.
And further on - if I want good sound on a system, I start turning all
enhancements off - then you hear of what quality the hardware really is. If
the sound is so terrible without the enhancement, it's a bad soundchip or bad
speakers. The sound chip maybe costs 1$ - so you didn't pay too much. If you
want good sound, try using a real sound cards like Creative XFi which offers
good drivers, 7.1 & good sound - with or without sound enhancements. I
personally have HD Audio 7.1 on my mainboard and only used it once - then I
buyed the cheapest Creative Audigy for 20$ and was just happy with the sound
again.
If you want to gain the max out of the buyed System, you have to try
different drivers - but those integrated sound cards are not well known for
the quality of their drivers or general reliability. In other words: Onboard
Sound, no matter if 4.1, 5.1 or 7.1 - it is and it was ever just crap - But
that's just my opinion.

And last - please let off posting with capitals. I guess you're writing this
to get help, so you can at least try to be nice and polite.
If you buy something and it's not working, it's your right to give it back
or insist to get a repaired device - but have to actually talk with Dell and
MAKE them aware that there is a problem and it has to be fixed - even if this
means to send your PC back, they are the ones to get in touch with. Microsoft
has sold their tested software to Dell and they have modified the System, so
it is their responsibility to support you.

I am getting audio buzzing while playing videos, this happens through my
attached speakers on the Dell flat panel display or through a headset. It
happened immediatley upon my Vista upgrade, the system had XP Media Center
before and this did not happen then.

The buzzing happens with all the players I've tried Windows Media Player,
Media Player Class, DIVX and VLC Media Player. Sometimes the buzzing stops,
then starts up again, and the buzzing is less with VLC Media Player.

Details of my PC are below.

Mine works perfectly except for the side speakers in the 7.1 sound card
using creative speakers 7.1 , have had no luck in getting all 8 speakers
working. Have however got the sides working and not the rear and vise-versa.

The playback problem could be that if it ain't created as a 5.1 or greater
sound/video file, it might not translate to 5.1 and hence you hear only a 2.1
sound eminating whilst playing in Media 11.

Try other players in Vista and see if the same. Then try a dvd you know for
sure is a 5.1 and see how it plays. I think you'll find that the 5.1 dvd will
play through all your 5.1 speakers.

Dell has the WORST customer serivce I've ever seen. My advice is to box the
whole computer up and send it back. Take the money and go elsewhere.
