DVD Maker and Data Execution Protection (DEP)

DVD Maker loads OK, but if when I import a video file the program closes
with the error message "Windows DVD Maker has stopped working".
I then get an error message in my taskbar "To help protect your computer,
Data Execution Protection has closed Windows DVD Maker".

I tried to exclude DVD Maker from DEP but cannot (I get a message that DVD
Maker cannot run without DEP).
I don't know how to turn off DEP totally.
I thought that it may be Nero related, so I have unistalled Nero and removed
all references to "Nero" and "Ahead" from the registry.
I have done the same with DivX just in case it's old codecs causing the
problem.
Problem is worse with.avi files - the programme always crashes on an .avi
import, whereas .mpg, .mpeg usually work.

Please help (but try to keep it simple, I am only a user, not a programmer).

I just want to be able to burn DVD's from video files so that I can play
them on my DVP player attached to my TV.

Thanks.

but still have the same problem:

One of the developers of DVD Maker can apparently be contacted here:

Re: DVD Maker and Data Execution Protection (DEP)

That pretty specifically is indicating the XVIDCore (part of XVID) is doing
bad things with memory. Either check for updates for XVID or uninstall XVID
and use FFDShow here instead.
