media changing delays when changing tracks

When changing tracks in windows media player 11 a message comes up on the
bottom left of the player saying media changing, and it takes about ten
seconds to change tracks. Can you make it so there's no delay between tracks
when you skip them? If so how?

RE: media changing delays when changing tracks

this can be caused by many things
maybe its becuase the amount of ram u have? the cpu u have?
is your music on a cd? an external drive?
wat's the speed or your cd-rom? or dvd-rom?
wat usb u using? 1.1? 2.0?
i mean sometimes this is just not a "problem".

RE: media changing delays when changing tracks

i face the same problem too.
i just bought this XPS M1210 Dell laptop.
[ Processor : Intel(R) Core (TM)2 CPU T7200 @ 2.00GHz 2.00 GHz
Memory : 2046 MB
System type : 32-bit OS ]

whenever i browse a music file or sometimes a video file too, i will need to
wait for around 10-13 seconds before it starts playing it. and whenever the
track reaches its end, it will be lagging, thus creating a real discomfort to
enjoy my new laptop

Re: media changing delays when changing tracks

What sound card do you have? Is there a driver update available?
If you turn off Enhancements on the sound card, does that fix it up?

From my FAQ... :

If your sound card is crackling or having audio glitching (especially
towards the end of tracks!), right-click on the Speaker icon in the system
tray, select Playback Devices, right-click Speakers in that new dialog, go
to Properties, then go to Enhancements - choose "Disable All Enhancements"
and you should be fixed up. If this does fix you up, check with your sound
card vendor - they should not be having this problem. Dell/Sigmatel do have
a driver update which may help.

RE: media changing delays when changing tracks

i forgot to say something
sometimes the type of the media u playing can cause the problem too
such as:
if you try to play a .wma file in WMP 11, the visualization will look laggy

Re: media changing delays when changing tracks

All,

Just bought a new Dell laptop with Vista Home Premium. I was having delays
in starting songs and crackling at the end of them. Followed the advice
from Zach D and the difference is amazing. No problems any more, this is
how I expected it to work!
Thanks.

You expected and accept disabling features is "good"?

Truly amazing how Microsoft can brainwash their customers and some
even seem to like it. While I'm not a fan of adding sound
"enhancements" from your audio card or build in audio, the point is
you should be able to if you want to. Damn funny that Microsoft's
standard answer when some of their junk doesn't work is to turn off or
disable something else, just so their crap can work.

Re: media changing delays when changing tracks

This is NOT a Microsoft problem -- it is a SigmaTel problem, they write the
drivers.

This does not happen with Creative nor Realtek.
