Importing from a Hi8 Sony camcorder

I am trying for the first time to put a video onto my computer and need to
know how to import it. The camera is a Sony Handycam Steadyshot Hi8 and I am
using Windows Movie Maker on Windows Vista. Thanks in advance.

Re: Importing from a Hi8 Sony camcorder

Windows Movie Maker in Windows Vista does not support importing video
directly from an analog video camera, such as a Hi8 video camera.

To import video from an analog video camera, you would need to get an analog
capture device (often a card you install on your computer or it a USB
device) and then use a video editing program that lets you import video from
an analog video camera. You could then edit the resulting video file in that
video editing program or you could use Windows Movie Maker to edit the
video.

If you have a DV camera (or have access to one), you could try to import
video from your Hi8 camera by connecting it to a DV camera which you would
then connect to your computer. Here's information about how to use an analog
video camera with a DV camera to import video by using Windows Movie Maker
in Windows Vista:

RE: Importing from a Hi8 Sony camcorder

Is there another program that I can use to import from an analog (Hi8) video
recorder without needing a card or usb?

Re: Importing from a Hi8 Sony camcorder

How would you connect the camera to the computer?
Since Hi8 only has s-video and composite video outputs, you have to have a card
or USB adapter that can recognize those outputs and put them into a format that
the computer can understand.

There are several adapters that are not that expensive.
