windows DVD burner problem

It seems like I had a problem that many other did when i upgraded from XP to
Vista Home Premium, my DVD burner no longer worked (error code 39). To fix
this I updated the regestry via the regedit command, deleting the lower and
upper filters.
Well, that seems to work for the most part. Now my computer recognizes the
Drive and I can drag and drop files onto the drive to burn them. However the
problem comes when I try to use the Windows DVD Maker. I add a WMV file,
click next and then it just says that Windows DVD Maker has stopped
working... Any suggestions of what I need to do to get it working?

Re: windows DVD burner problem

Yes, there is something in the event log. Here's what it says: Faulting
application DvdMaker.exe, version 6.0.6000.16386, time stamp 0x4549b5b0,
faulting module lmpgspl.ax, version 4.0.0.157, time stamp 0x4497e991,
exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x0000166a, process id 0xfe0,
application start time 0x01c7ac9054008741.

any ideas?

Re: windows DVD burner problem

Looks like a simple access violation. Have a look through these.

Re: windows DVD burner problem

Unregistering lmpgspl.ax should solve your problem. lmpgspl.ax is part of
the Ligos codec which is known to cause problems.
Start an elevated command prompt: Find Command Prompt in the Start Menu
(probably in System Tools), right click on it and pick "Run as
administrator" from the popup menu.
Once the command prompt opens, type this command:

regsvr32 /u lmpgspl.ax

Press enter and you should receive a message that the file was sucessfully
unregistered. Close the window an you should be OK.
