avi not valid

    avi not valid

    i am able to add some avis to burn with windows dvd maker but on others i get
    an error message that says the file is either not valid or corrupt. but they
    all play just fine on media player

    What codec do the files in question use? It's common for AVI files to use
    DivX variations, and there's tons of bad versions of DivX codecs out there.
    I suspect that the best current decoder to use is FFDShow Tryouts beta 3
    (July 2007).

    zach, ur the man. i talked to some dumb****s at circuit city and talked to
    some ppl at microsoft and they all told me there was no way to fix my prob.
    unfortunately ive already deleted some files but i just dloaded ffdshow and
    it works man. its awesome, thanx so much!!

    No worries.

    This is an amazingly complex field, though, so I wouldn't view those peeps
    too harshly. There's about as much bad information as there is *good*
    information. I'm trying to slowly help rectify that, but ... there's a
    billion people out there using computers, so it'll take a while. =)
