Cannot play music CDs or DVDs after Vista Upgrade

I upgraded to Vista Business Edition from XP Pro a couple of months ago. I
think its great and haven't had any major problems.......till now!

I went to import a new CD into iTunes and it appeared to do it in about 5
seconds. When I played the imported songs, there was nothing. In iTunes, I
clicked on the CD and tried playing directly off the CD and it just skips
straight on to the next song.

Suspecting iTunes, I tried Windows Media Player and the same thing. I tried
a different CD and the same happened. I tried a video DVD and WMP will not
play it either.

I have an Acer Aspire 1683 WLMi with an upgraded hard drive (120GB) and
upgraded RAM (1.5GB). I never had this issue under XP.

I've checked for software updates for the DVDRW driver and it is using the
latest. I've removed and reinstalled the drive and still the same.

Incidentally, RealPlayer CAN play my music CDs!

Anyone any ideas?

The CD drive or the DVD drive does not work as expected after you upgrade a
computer to Windows Vista

RE: Cannot play music CDs or DVDs after Vista Upgrade

This didn't work. I carried out the instructions but no luck.

RealPlayer works perfectly fine for playing CDs so whatever WMP and iTunes
need, who knows ?!?

I'm getting a bit fed up with Vista now and the COMPLETE lack of support for
any laptops over a year or so old.

I have a Ghost image of XP Pro which I'm now very inclined to revert to.

1. Cannot play CDs or DVDs in iTunes or WMP
2. Cannot import songs
3. IE7 and Flash now no longer work under Vista (incidently Netscape is fine)
4. I have no battery power meter in Vista
5. Ghost and Partition Magic aren't compatible
6. My bluetooth printer no longer prints using Bluetooth

I do like Vista and when it's sorted, it'll be great but with such poor
support for it, I think I may just drop it.

By the time Vista is sorted though, I'll have migrated to Apple!
