| Guest | Pictures Duplicated in My Pictures folders Why are some of my pictures duplicated in the folders of My Pictures? Acturally it has happened to alot of the pictures. Some of the pictures have the same exact names, and others have name (1), or copy of name (1). Did Vista Business duplicate my pictures? Is this a flaw or something? Is this correctable, or do I have to go and delete 1,000's of pictures to free up my hard drive? Any ideas on how to correct it? Thanks George |

| Guest | Re: Pictures Duplicated in My Pictures folders Are the duplicates of files files that you have edited with Windows Photo Gallery? If so, open Photo Gallery, and in the menu, choose File > Options. Under the section Original Picture, you can set it to have the original picture deleted after a certain amount of time. I don't know why. =============================== The ones that say...copy of xxxxx.jpg...are generated when you try to multiple select. It happens occasionally to most anyone who is trying to multiple select by holding the Ctrl or Shift key while left clicking to select the image files. The copies are created when you fail to completely release the mouse button before you move the pointer to another file. If a group of selected files is dragged...even the slightest bit...releasing the mouse button will produce copies of all the previously highlighted files. A search for copy of should find the unwanted copies so you can delete them. -- John Inzer MS Picture It! - Digital Image MVP Digital Image Highlights and FAQs http://tinyurl.com/aczzp Notice This is not tech support I am a volunteer Solutions that work for me may not work for you Proceed at your own risk |

| Guest | Re: Pictures Duplicated in My Pictures folders In the past, did you change the location of the Pictures folder, from the default path? That is ,from C:\Users\You\Pictures to another drive, or to another spot under C:\? If so, did you try to move it back to the default location, or move it somewhere else, possibly? | Guest | Re: Pictures Duplicated in My Pictures folders Is there an easy way to search the drive so I can delete them? It is a slow process going through all the folders in the my pictures. I have tried using the wild card *(1).jpg and putting that in the name field, but it doesn not work. All the pictures have names that end in (1).jpg There is a space before the (1).jpg so a picture file may be something like DSC02052 (1).jpg Thanks George "dean-dean" wrote: > In the past, did you change the location of the Pictures folder, from the > default path? | Guest | Re: Pictures Duplicated in My Pictures folders Yes, I get the original picture and the picture that ends in (1).jpg. For example if the original picture is DSC02125.jpg and the copy is DSC02125 (1).jpg Both are coming up in the search. | Guest | Re: Pictures Duplicated in My Pictures folders It appears that searching for (1) is a problem, because the () is used as to contain a Boolean operation. (big little) will search for instances of "big" or "little" therefore, searching for (1) will return all files with a "1" in the name.... I don't know how to get around this.... perhaps the file names have something else in common?
