Vista - No picture only sound... why????

When I import an avi video into Movie Maker 1 I get only sound but no picture
in the little screen... same thing happens when I tried to watch online video
on www.wwe.com. Am I missing a codec or something?

I have just bought a new computer and it came with Vista and I have no idea
how to use Vista.

Should I install Movie Maker 2? I thought I would try to not install too
many programs on my computer and since movie maker 1 is already on the
computer I wanna learn to use that one.

But why can't I see online videos?????

Plz help me and PapaJohn... I have already looked at your site and that one
confuse me even more... sorry...

Yes, this does sound like a codec issue.

You can download a free utility called GSpot ( use Google) which will tell you
what codec you need.

For me this same thing happened with the DivX codec. If you need the DivX
codec, ONLY get it from divx.com and when you install, do a CUSTOM install and
ONLY install the codec. The rest of the package is not yet fully Vista
compatible.

Ok codec was missing but I installed DivX codec only and now I get the
message from Media Player that a codec is still missing but I can see the pic
and hear the sound... I just asked my brother and he said well if you can see
the pic and hear the sound so what if the codec is missing ROFL...

Thanks for the help... now I just need to figure out how to save a video
from internet in media player... archive and save doesnt work...
grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
