    Cassette Tape Recording

How do I record my old cassettes onto the harddrive of my computer? I am
running Windows Vista on my lap top. I have tried connecting the "phones" on
the cassette player and the front mic on the laptop and so far, its not
working. I found the workshop on the Windows page, but it talks about a
program called Plus! Analog recording which I cannot find on here. Help!

The Plus! programs were for XP, and have been discontinued. I have some of
them installed, (but not that one) and they do work in Vista.

You might try the free Audacity program...

    Vista includes Sound Recorder...

but it's very basic and only saves in .wma format.

Well, I did download audacity and the music will play but the distortion is
terrible. I must be doing something wrong...

Probably becuase you are taking a line out into a mic in, you need to use
the line in port of your sound card.
