No. Windows Media Player should still work after installing Media Center.
You should report this as a bug.

i have also encountered a problem with media player after using media center

to save me time looking for where to post a bug report can someone give me
the url or email please.

the problem is with the media library
i had about 2000 music files in my library all working fine
i ran media center for the first time and thought i would add the same music
file to its media center.
it didnt find any! it just sat there on 0%. i checked i had the correct
drive, that the files were still there and that they worked. its all fine.
when i returned to vista and ran media player the library appears empty but
when you add new files it says that it already has 2000 or so files and
doesnt find any new ones.
if i drag and drop folders into media player playlist it plays them fine.
something is buggering up the library.
