Background: Certain anomilies
mpg's video clips play normal in Vista WMP11

mpg's video clips imported into Vista Movie Maker shows green screen movie
maker preview screen and only audio is heard when play button is initiated.

The same mpg video clip shows first frame of video clip in storyboard
section.

Work around problem was to publish mpg video clip in wmv format

So my question is why do I have to do a workaround when Movie Maker is
supposed to be able to import mpg files normally. If WMP11 can play this
same mpg file so should Movie Maker.

Sometimes...Why?...is a hard question to answer.
I can tell you that Movie Maker can have issues
with MPEG files and converting them to .wmv is
usually a viable alternative. Just because a clip
plays successfully in WMP11 is no guarantee
that it will perform 100% in Movie Maker.

The trial version of the following program can
convert .mpeg to .wmv. If the converted files
continue to cause issues...at least you ruled it
out as a possible solution.

i have the same issues with XVID encoded AVI files.
The workaround is not a solution at all. The quality will suffer with each
enconding step.
So i guess the solution is to buy a working software.
This bug is in Movie Maker since ever.

Hello,

i installed the very latest version of K-lite codec pack and problem is gone
for me.
Also uninstall XVID of DIVX is any is installed (acutally K-Lite
installation programm will do this for you).
