Vista - VISTA pciture thumnails missing

All my pciture folders do not show thumbnails but only icons .

I have tried almost all solutions foudn vide google including rgistry
changes but no solution.
Interestingly in folder view option "always how icons never thumbnails is
missing"

any idea how this functionality is broken .
for the record I have following progrmmes installed which are suspecetd by
lot of user to create this problem

1. Irfanview
2. Nero
3. Adobe reader

and yes I have tried removing them and updateing to latest version also.
any MSVP who has encountered or solved this problem so far

Already looked at it and various other sources.
This post is quite old and Nero has come up with numerous updates after
this.

My main problem is in Explorer the view folder does not have show thumbnails
option at all. It starts with extra large icons and ends with tiles.

So Nero and Irfanview are ruled out as problems.
Suprisingly it is not the processor speed as somebody suggested as I have
1.8 Centrino duo with 1 GB ram , 7200 rmp HD and ATI X1400 (128 MB onboard -
shared 256 MB)

Note that all thumbnails for pictures as well as AVI are disabled.

The fault is in Vista UI only where the use thumbnail option is missing
totally.

what do you see in icon view? what do the icons look like and what
kind of image files?

Dear Mr. Bowman,

I have already done that and verified if these entries are present in
registry. They are.

My problem is that the entry "Show Icons, never thumbnails" and folder view
options is not at all present .
I even trieed running SFC/scannow and it reported back with no errors.
But seems somehow something is broken .

Another issue which may be related is that everytime I reboot AREO is off
which I have to switch on manually by using 'net start uxsms'

You can take some liberties when explaining to me as I am quite proficient
in use of windows since win95. and quite comfortable in cmd prompts and
regedit batch files that sort of stuff.
