Go to Start Menu>Control Panel>Sound>double click on speakers>open Enhancements>make sure "Equalizer" and "Loudness Equalizer" are checked.

RE: Low Volume when playing DVD's and CD's

Would someone from Microsoft (or someone who knows) please answer this
question.. I have exactly the same problem, on a brand new laptop... took it
back to the shop and called toshiba they had no ideas. All volume settings I
could find were adjusted to max.. the guys at the store thought it may be
limited because some use headphones and limiting the volume protects their
ears.. but I want to use the speakers.

Been researching this problem for hours now, suffer with exactly the same
thing. This link appears to have a fix, its from the microsoft website, but
they make it sound very risky, so let me know who you get on with it please
if you do choose to use it!

RE: Low Volume when playing DVD's and CD's

Somehow the problem resolved itself, I guess it was a windows update or
something.. pretty sure it wasn't anything I did. Your link looks like a
good fix, if I still had the problem I'd create a system restore point,
backup my files and give it a go. Run windows update first perhaps. Best of
Luck!
