AVI CODEC for Windows Media Center on Vista

Folks,

I need a little help. I am running Windows Media Center with Windows Vista.
Windows Media Player will play AVI files, but Windows Media Center will not.
I need a CODEC for AVI files. I know there are better programs than Media
Center, but I wish to use the extender box to play downloaded Torrent files
on my big screen TV. I can't do this until I first get Windows Media Center
to play AVI files.

Can someone please help me? Please reply "army74delta@xxxxxx".

Thank You,
Lance Asher

Try DivX. It's free.

Re: AVI CODEC for Windows Media Center on Vista

I'd find out waht sort of avi file they are before downloading a codec.
use avicodec or Gspot, linked to here,
http://www.myvideoproblems.com/WebPa...Programmes.htm
to find out which of the 800+ avi file types it is then download just the
codec required to play them from its manufacturer.
Of course downloading from the net a you are you may need several codecs,
beware this may cause troubl;e on your pc if done willy nilly.

What a sad little loop. TechArena is an awful site.

The better plan would be to use CCCP if you really do need to use a codec
pack, which I as a multimedia expert advise you strongly against. Codec
packs sabotage the industry and sabotage the user: it's a lose-lose
situation.
