Problem - ICS between Vista and XP(host)

Hi,

I have connected the computers - my XP host local area connection is
'connected, shared and firewalled' and my Vista computer is recognising the
connection to an 'unidentified network' but will not access the internet
through this connection. 'Network Discovery' is on.

I have already spent a few days trying to solve this on different forums
without success. My only other solution is to remove Vista and install
XP..... Please help.

RE: Problem - ICS between Vista and XP(host)

Hi kmc_luxennis,

I finished setingup an XP to Vista setup with ICS.It works when you setup
your modem, printers et. on the XP computer. Next you create your network
connection between XP and Vista computers.(pref disable Firewalls on both the
computers on this inter-computer connection)(1) When the connection is
working, acess "network setup wizzard" on XP and select "this computer
connects directly to the internet. The other computers on my networc connect
to the internet through this computer." Click "next"then select your internet
connection and click "next". Select your connection between your computers
and click "next". You then compleet your computer discriptoin and name (it
should show automaticaly) the click "next". Your "workgroup name" has to be
compleeted and be the same on all your computers that you want to connect on
your network, then click "next". You then select " turn on file and printer
sharing" and click "next". A sumory is displayed and click "next".
Configuration will take place after witch you must select "create a network
setup disk" and plug your Flash-disk in. You save it on the Flash-disk,
unplug the Flash-disk and restart your XP computer.

(2) Plug your Flash-disk in on your Vista computer and run the setup from
the Flash-disk. Select "this computer connects to the internet through
another computer or through a resedential gateway" and click "next". Then
choose "let me choose th connections to my network" and click "next". This
computer must have a difrent computer discriptoin and name than your Xp and
click next. The workgroop name must be the same as on XP and click "next". A
sumory is displayed and click "next". Configuration will take place after
witch in my case a screen displaying "cannot complete the network setup
wizard" is displayed. Click "finish" and restart your Vista computer.

(3) After restart, go in on your XP computer on "network connections" and
Right click on your internet connection. Then select "properties" and then
select "advanced". Then on "internet connection sharing" select "allow other
network users to connect through this computer's internet connection" and
click " ok". Make sure your "firewall's" on both computers on thit inter
computer connection is switched off after the setup!

This was the only way i could get my network and ICS working. I wish you all
the luck and hope it can work for you.
Greetings:
