| Guest | Cannot see shared folders on my domain network I am having a hard time viewing my shared drives/folders on our Vista Business machine on our corporate network. We are running an internal domain with Windows Server 2003. Interesting to point out, I also cannot remote desktop to that vista machine across our VPN. Anyone have any thoughts. I have tried resetting the Vista firewall, ensuring adequate permissions, etc. Thanks, Brian |

Your problem is symptomatic of a NetBT inconsistency, or a personal firewall problem. What antivirus product do you use on the problem computer? On the network in general? What operating system is on the other computers? <http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2006/07/advanced-windows-networking-using.html> http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2006/0...ing-using.html Computers running Windows Vista can be a challenge on networks with older operating systems. | Guest | Re: Cannot see shared folders on my domain network Chuck, I have no over anti-virus/firewall currently installed. I did have Windows LiveOne installed about a month ago. Then I uninstalled it, have had problems ever since. I have tried to run the LiveOneCare clean up utility, that has not affected anything. The other machines in our Domain are Windows XP Pro SP2, and our Server is Windows 2003 with active diretory running, and VPN. I find it interesting that I can remote desktop to the Vista machine, only when I can locally at that office, but when I am connected remotely across the VPN, I cannot remote desktop to it. Don't know if that tells you something. I am wondering if haivng OneCare installed messed with the firewall settings. Thanks, Brian "Chuck [MVP]" wrote:

When you say "... when I am connected remotely across the VPN, I cannot remote desktop to it.", what error or problem are you observing? 1) Cannot browse ("see" in Network)? 2) Get "name not found" aka "error 53"? 3) Get "access denied" aka "error 5"? Using a VPN isn't the same as connecting locally, though you would like it to be. And the nature of the exact symptom will be relevant. There are known problems with OneCare (aka "****er") and Windows Vista. <http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2006/12/windows-xp-and-vista-on-lan-together.html#Security> http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2006/1....html#Security -- Cheers, Chuck, MS-MVP 2005-2007 [Windows - Networking] http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/ Paranoia is not a problem, when it's a normal response from experience.
