Vista Tutorial - Issue with the network

Our computer has just developed an issue with the internet network. The
icon shows a rex "x" and says it cannot find any networks, yet the internet
is still functioning. Initially it said it couldn't conect to a wireless
network (which we do not have nor have ever tried to install). Now it just
tells us that there is no problem with the network, yet still displays an
error icon. Also, anytime we try to access a network folder of any type is
has an extreme slowdown, sometimes to the point the folder freezes.

So.. What I would like to have answered is this: How do I get the network
settings to display correctly, stop it from trying to find a wireless
network, and get the network folders to stop hanging on us?

I'm sorry if I'm too vague but I don't know how else to phrase this.

You can right-click network icon on the task bar, and choose "diagnostic and
repair".

Well, the thing is we did that right away and that's when it said it
couldn't load the wireless driver (which we don't have) and now it says there
is no issure with the network. Everyhting does seem to work fine it's just
the icon (on the taskbar)is telling us otherwise. We just want it to be read
correctly. Not to mention we want to figure out why the network menus and
folders lag so badly.
