Vista - Problems connecting to a file server with new Vista computer

I've got a Quantum Snap Server. Connecting to this was hit and miss with W98
but when I upgraded to WXP there was no problem. All users have a username &
password and you could connect either via the path \\snapbackup\folder or
\\192.168.0.92\folder\ (the latter IP address version being reliable in W98
also).

I've just got a Vista laptop and although I can connect to the server's
admin pages http://192.168.0.92/ when I try to connect to the shared folder
\\192.168.0.92\folder\ I get the message "Logon Unsuccessful. Windows is
unable to log you on. Be sure that your username and password are
correct"...the username and password are DEFINATELY correct!!

To add to the confusion a couple of times I have randomly been given access,
without changing any settings but once in the shared folder I was unable to
save anything to it with an error message regarding lack of access, or when I
tried to access an Access database in the shared folder I got another message
saying I didn't have access (I'm not sure if this is a MS Access problem or a
general file access problem).

I've tried all the settings I can find/think of but to no avail. I think the
new laptop is going out of the window soon at this rate!

HELP!

Is this a domain network?

I think it's a workgroup network rather than a domain network...does that
sound right?

I seem to have solved the MS Access problem in that I can now open my
databases. I can also open other types of files.

What I still can't do is save anything to the shared folder, that includes
new items and saving changes.

I suspect that if I restart though I'll not be able to connect at all!

As predicted I restarted and can't connect again!

Do you receive system error if you do net view \\192.168.0.9? If not, how
about bnte view \\snapbackup?

My username and password are definately correct though so this isn't the
issue. I can turn around and log straight in using the same details on an XP
machine.

I didn't previously have a password on my Vista user account so I've tried
adding one but that didn't help. I also saw your post regarding Password
Protected Sharing but turning this on and off makes no difference.

I've now enabled the Guest account as I've seen that mentioned but it didn't
help so I'm off to restart to see if that makes a difference.

Access is still coming and going without changes being made, which is the
strangest thing. When I get access sometimes I can open files, other times I
can't but I've never been able to save to the snap through Vista.

This regedit gives access straight away and allows me to write to the snap.

A strange side product is that I tried to create a new folder on there to
test it and it hung for ages. In the end I closed the window and went in
again to find that it had created 173 new folders...

Any ideas?!!
