Vista - LAN adaptor dropping out

Very new Dell optiplex 755 with Vista Biz + Intel 82566DM-2 Gigabit adaptor
to 100 local home LAN and internet connection. Frequent loss of LAN
connection > red cross > says network cable unplugged (but not). Switched
cables repeatley with old XP PC to eliminate this.

Tested card - OK (this might clear the problem sometimes).

Found a reference to Windows powermanagement but not able to try dissabling
as my Power Management tab differs.

Did not notice untill after I ran Transfer Files & Settings.

Help

The DHCP doesn't assign IP to the computer. Have checked if there is a new
firmware for the router and new driver for NIC? Or check this link.

I am currently experiencing the same problem. So far nothing I have done has
helped. This is the exact same machine and network card and Vista Ultimate.
Currently working with a Linksys SD208 switch, which according to their site
is vista compabitle.

Only similar occurance I have been able to track down on the internet was
someone replacing their NIC to fix the problem. Did your replacing the router
work?

Any help much appreciated. We have a few 755's and only one is exhibiting these problems..

Same thing here with an Optiplex 755. Dell said I should update the BIOS and disable the Intel State Manager (Ctr+P when computer starts up). I'll try it on Monday

I am on XP and I have the same problem with the "network cable unplugged
Intel 82566 etc. etc." I am on dial up internet at the moment and for
some reason it is running very slowly, only connecting a 28kbs maximum.
I am unable to download certain pagfes because they are timing out
before they finish loading. I have read everyones posts on this matter
but am unable to understand a solution. Would this problem with the
"network cable" be causing my problem? and has anyone found how to fix
the problem yet? otherwise I might return the computer to Acer, its
still under warranty I only bought it 2 weeks ago.
p.s. if anyone does find how to fix it, and they post an answer, could
they please send me an email at martin_jjackson@xxxxxx to let me
know to check this site. thanks

The LAN BIOS Settings did the trick for me...

OK, so, if you wouldn't mind, how do I go about "updating the BIOS" as
you said. can i do this myself or must i return my PC to the
manufacturer. u see i am an experienced user at applications but not so
much on the altering system settings and the like, and when i try i have
a habbit of doing more damage than good!
To be more specific on my "network connections" screen i have a dial up
"Dodo" connection. and below that it says "LAN or High Speed Internet"
and under that heading is the "network cable unplugged 82566 etc." Do
you think this might be causing my slow dial up speed?. i am getting
wireless broadband very soon, my modem has arrived im just waiting to
finish the "cooling off period" I wonder if this "unplugged network
cable" will affect my wireless. anyway, if you know how to help me i
would be very appreciative.
