| | Vista + Roaming Profiles + Folder Redirection... I can't seem to get my Folder Redirection Policy to work in a small network of XP and Vista PC's (Win2003 Domain Controller). We use Roaming Profiles in the domain. I'm expecting to see the same files in XP's My Documents as in Vista's Document for the user - but do not. {Intro: I'm a developer who has managed to maintain this setup (first using NT4) more by luck, I'm sure, then "best practices" - experienced but far from being an expert} -This is my first attempt at adding a Vista (Business edition) PC into the Domain (with three XP machines). - I have read and re-read and . the Microsoft "Managing Roaming User Data Deployment Guide" document. Set things up using "Scenario 3: Windows Vista and Windows XP Roaming User Profile Interoperability" - The ".v2" profiles are on the server (created by the system). Documents is empty. - Profile is being loaded by the Vista machine (since I no longer get the "Error loading profile - using a temporary profile" message and files are being saved to the server) - Nothing I have done so far affects the XP machines (tg) - Don't see any event logs entries on client or server that seem to relate Under XP I had redirected My Documents by going to its properties and changing the location to be a share on the server (of form: \\server\documents\%username%\). Do not expect to have to do this in Vista (right?) with folder redirection. Created a policy object that appears to be set (see attached "Group Policy Manager" screen shot) OK. But when I log on - the XP's machine see the same files but the Vista one does not. Just to keep this simple, I'm focusing on Documents - other redirections do not work either. Figure if I can get one, then the rest will be a piece of cake. Thanks for any assistance. Andre Email encode: STX -you know what goes here- Penn-street - you know what goes here - com |

| | Re: Vista + Roaming Profiles + Folder Redirection... Thanks Eric ... That didn't seem to fit but it referenced a few KB's that I had not looked at. Looks like I need to apply Folder Redirection on the XP side too (Surprise, for me! Redirection is not new to Vista - I had wondered about an image in the "Managing Roaming User Data Deployment Guide" showing an entry in XP but no comments as to how it got there). More reading to do... | | Why won't Folder Redirection Policy Run? Why do I persist? Why don't I just have Dell send me a XP CD? One of the few problems we have with Roaming Profiles - is the amount of time Logon can take - and as I read Folder Redirection is suppose to fix that, so to continue... Reading/learning a lot - since FD should work with XP and a 2003 Domain I figured I'd create a new domain user (with a roaming profile and as a admin on the client XP machine) to watch things happen on XP. Logon's OK - roaming profile created on server share OK - no Documents folder created on the document share, WTF! First was to try to enable the FD log using "FdeployDebugLevel" debug switch - no log written! Next the "gpresult" and "gpupdate" utilities (and the Group Policy Result Wizard in GPMC.MSC) - neither contains any indication that the Folder Redirection Policy is being run (only the Default Domain Policy runs). Expect that my FD policy should show up in these results - it's DOES NOT (yes it's enabled in GPMC). Also looked at userenv.log - nothing significant there (CleanupUserProfile message and GetExclusionList 'no find' message). Can anybody suggest why my Folder Redirection Policy isn't running? Will send/post logs if of use, just ask.
