| Guest | Wireless Network / Internet Trouble Hi there everyone. I am having trouble with my wireless internet. When i was home over the Christmas break, I attempted to forward my port on my wireless internet at home so my router would allow me to access some of my programs (the router had a firewall on it blocking these programs). Ever since then, the only place i can access wireless internet is only at my house, nowhere ele. When i go other places, I can find connections and connect to them, but i can only connect to the network part of it, not the internet. For example, when I go to the Network and Sharing Center, it will show the connection between my computer and the network working properly, but then the line between the Network and the Internet has a Red X through it and the Internet Globe is grey. When i troubleshoot, it says it cannot contact my server / ISP, and it shows that the ISP is the one from my wireless at home. What can i do to fix this? Can someone please help? I'm at college and cannot access any wireless, kinda a pain in the butt if you ask me, but it is my own doing... Any help would be great, thank you very much! |

| Guest | Re: Wireless Network / Internet Trouble If you haven't signed another contract with other ISP you can't access the others services. (normally! ...). Check if you have automatic settings for IP (I mean for DHCP server because he resolves name resolution by indicating the DNS server). There are 2 different kind of wireless (WLAN, WPAN and WWAN). A WWAN solution should give you a better mobility but it's more expensive. Because you just pump in to the new network you should consider yourself lucky to have access to others sharing (because they are very generous ...) If you know some1 that is connecting regularly in that network check his settings for the connection. (it is a possibility that the ISP has a security policy based on MAC address ... but that's another story) Cheers, "NateBurgherUDUB" <NateBurgherUDUB@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:B156F9CC-791D-40FB-9578-B622D7E71102@xxxxxx Quote: > Hi there everyone. | Guest | Re: Wireless Network / Internet Trouble Well as i said before the wireless that i was successfully on was from my house. Now i'm back at college after break, and we have internet here that i have always been able to access before through my school's username and password. i can't even get to that page that asks for my username and password. when i open up Internet Explorer on my Toshiba running Windows Vista, the IE can't "display the webpage". Any other advice anyone? Thank you "Marius Farcas" wrote: Quote: > If you haven't signed another contract with other ISP you can't access the > others services. | Guest | Re: Wireless Network / Internet Trouble Yes, it is on and always has been on. As I said earlier, I can connect to the network, that is not the problem, the problem is that I can connect to the network but not the internet. I CAN find networks and CAN connect to networks but the INTERNET DOES NOT work. "Douglas" wrote: Quote: > Make sure Network Discovery is turned on, and not set to custom. > -- > Veni, Vidi, Velcro.
