Vista - Find a computer through it's ipaddress

Find a computer through it's ipaddress

how do i find a computer? on xp i used to right click mey network then find
computer and enter the ipaddress. i need to do this because the computer is
on the other side of a vpn. seems overly difficult under vista. any help
would be much appreciated

Sounds like you know the IP address of the taget computer, if so just do
this...

Start>Accessories> Run... type "\\ip.address" and press enter

or open any window and type \\ip.address in the address bar.

Thanks Doug, it did not work, must be some kind of vista/firewall issue.

this works fine on an xp pc. i resolved this by moving the vpn from the
internet router and then forward the vpn port to a sbs server, then setup the
vpn on the server.

weird, but thanks anyway.
