Vista network discovery, or right-click network icon VERY slow

Over the pas few days, my x86 Vista PC has a problem with the network
discovery, or even right-click network icon and then click properties,
being exceedingly slow.

It will take up to 15 minutes to perform the action, but then returns
with the correct results, and finds other computers on the domain as
it is supposed to.

I have rebooted all the computers involved.

the only new addition is a SAN on the network, but it works OK, except
for the media sharing which I have not been able to get to work yet
(an NetgearNAS NV+).

Any suggestions as to what to look for to resolve this problem.
