| | Vista does not recognize my LAN I installed Vista Beta 2, Build 5384 on a computer than was previously running Windows Server 2003 on a local area network. Vista finds my router and can get to the Internet, but it does not acknowledge the presence of my LAN or the other computers on it. I would appreciate any suggestions |

| | Re: Vista does not recognize my LAN Hello, please make sure the following settings are set correctly: - Click Start - Click Control Panel - Click Network and Internet - Click Network Center - Look under the Network Details heading - Look for the line that reads "Network Category" - If this is not set to Private, click the Change to Private link to the right. - Look under the General heading - Look for the line that reads "Discovery and Sharing" - If this is not set to Allowed, click the Allow link to the right. Also, you can control how other computers access the shared folders on your Vista computer from the File and Printer Sharing control panel. Click Start Click Control Panel Click Network and Internet Click Network File and Printer Sharing - JB Vista Support FAQ http://www.jimmah.com/vista/ |

| | Re: Vista does not recognize my LAN Hello Jimmy, Thank you for your very prompt reply. I had already done all the things you suggested yesterday. However, just now, after reading your reply, I checked my network. Now it shows up! I didn't do anything to it. Just the passage of time is the only difference. Does this make sense? -- moontube "Jimmy Brush" wrote: > Hello, please make sure the following settings are set correctly: > > - Click Start > - Click Control Panel > - Click Network and Internet > - Click Network Center > - Look under the Network Details heading > - Look for the line that reads "Network Category" > - If this is not set to Private, click the Change to Private link to the > right. > - Look under the General heading > - Look for the line that reads "Discovery and Sharing" > - If this is not set to Allowed, click the Allow link to the right. > > Also, you can control how other computers access the shared folders on your > Vista computer from the File and Printer Sharing control panel. > > Click Start > Click Control Panel > Click Network and Internet > Click Network File and Printer Sharing > > - JB > > Vista Support FAQ > http://www.jimmah.com/vista/ > |

| | Re: Vista does not recognize my LAN Hi Mark and Jimmy. Unfortunately, the other computers on my network have disappeared again. the workgroups do not show up, although they did for that one bright shining moment when they magically appeared. I don't know why they appeared and now I don't know why they are gone again, with me doing nothing in between times. I do not have a high degree of confidence in a system that comes and goes without explanation. Add to this the fact that my DVD drive will not spin up when I put a DVD or CD in it, and I am not able to do much with Vista. -- moontube "Mark D.
